Care for your flowers
Here are Rose’s tips for looking after your flowers:
- Choose your vase carefully: think about proportion, and perhaps using a smaller container than usual, cutting stems shorter. Or try an unusual container – such as a tea pot – or a series of items to create a more contemporary look, such as bottles, jars or egg cups.
- Make sure the vase is clean – dirty vases encourage bacteria which kills flowers
- Trim the stems at an angle, by at least an inch (2.5cm) – this gives a bigger surface area for the flowers to take up water and ensures that stems are not blocked by resting on the bottom of the vase
- Remove all leaves below the water line – leaves in water rot quickly causing bacteria to form
- Keep the flowers cool and out of direct sunlight
- Use flower food, and change the water regularly
- Keep the flowers away from fruit and remove faded flowers as they occur
